And so, it’s set…

… The rematch of the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City. This Sunday, Canada and the USA will face off in the gold-medal game, this time on Canada’s home soil. The ultimate revenge for the USA would not only be to win the game, but to win it in Canada; especially after they failed to win gold at home against the Canadian squad 8 years ago. On the other hand, the Canadians would like to get revenge for the first meeting between the Canada and the US earlier in these year’s Games; and winning a gold-medal in the process is a great way to get revenge.

It might not be the Canada-Russia final I wanted, but it’s living up to the hype. The USA is the only unbeaten team in the tournament, and Ryan Miller is playing outstanding. Canada seems to be struggling compared to how they should be doing with the amount of skill in the lineup. All of a sudden, it’s anyone’s game. If it was a rematch of 8 years ago with the same rosters, I’d say Canada would win regardless of the circumstances. I kind of have a really bad feeling that the USA will steal it this time around. To be fair, the USA roster isn’t as skilled as they were 2 Olympics ago, so Canada does have a chance. They need to find something to fire them up, be it the crowd, the pressure, the gold-medal, the chance to win in their home country, anything. Either way, it’s going to be one hell of a hockey game.
